May 09, 2003
HAMBURG, N.Y. – Three business savvy Ellicott Elementary students used what they learned about product development and entrepreneurship to come up winners of an essay contest organized by the Hilbert College Students in Free Enterprise.
In their essays on "Bringing a Product to Market," each student focused on a new or an improved product, covering everything from target markets to price to promotion.
Essay contest winners from the fifth grade "Spectrum" class of gifted students were Meghan Clough, first place, who received a $200 savings bond; Nicole Zizzi, second place, who received a $100 savings bond; and Meg Sullivan, third place, who received a $50 savings bond. In addition to the savings bonds, which were donated by M&T Bank’s Orchard Park branch and SIFE, each winner received a trophy.
The contest was held following a SIFE presentation about the free enterprise system made to the Orchard Park students. Toni Incorvaia and Kelly Hill of East Aurora and Sarah Gernatt of Gowanda organized the project.
Established at Hilbert in 2001, SIFE is a part of the Hilbert Business Administration Department.
