PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Junior Wally Skrzynski (Buffalo, NY/Lackawanna) notched two doubles and scored a run, but it wasn’t enough as La Roche College defeated Hilbert College, 10-2, in the first game of a baseball doubleheader on Friday. The Redhawks also won the second game, 15-1. The Hawks dropped to 1-22 on the season, and 1-15 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
La Roche took the early lead in the first inning of game one, as a double by Nick Wendall scored Dustin Kuhn to produce the first run of the game. Wendall later scored on a single by Varinder Gill, giving the Redhawks an early 2-0 lead.
After allowing another run in the second, Hilbert got on the board in the third inning. Skrzynski led off the inning with a double, and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Arthur Giles (Mayville, NY/Chautauqua Lake). Skrzynski would score on an error by the shortstop, and Dallas Reinard’s (Smethport, PA/Smethport) two-out RBI single trimmed the deficit to 3-2.
The Redhawks came back with a vengeance in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs to extend their lead to 7-2. La Roche would tack on three more in the fourth inning to round out the scoring.
