Hamburg, NY - The Hilbert women’s soccer team dropped a close 2-1 non-conference game against Thiel College September 19. Robbi Bailey continues to lead the Hawks’ front line as she netted her fourth goal this season. Thiel improved to 2-4-1 while Hilbert dropped to 2-5.
The Tomcat’s Nichole Carlton broke the scoring early in first half when she found some open space in Hilbert’s defense and buried the ball into the far side of the net past Hilbert’s Erin Smith at 5:28. It took the Hawks twenty-five minutes more to hook-up for their first score of the day when Bailey took a pass from Kaitlyn Layman and surprised the keeper with a deep ball that dropped to the far side in the open cage. The final blow came from Thiel in the 81st minute when Kelly Bellia took a pass off a throw-in and booted it into the upper center of the frame.
The Hawks put on a strong offensive press after that second Thiel goal but came up empty handed by the final horn. Thiel was credited with a 7-1 shots-on-goal advantage; Smith made three saves in the first half before Ariana Scheidt took over the second period and made two more.
Hilbert’s next match will be their first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match at Mount Aloysius College September 22.
