HAMBURG, NY – After spotting Franciscan two goals by half time, the Hilbert College women’s soccer team found new life just after intermission. Nicole Blair’s score two minutes into the second period cut the deficient but only briefly, as the Barons went on an unanswered-scoring spree to claim a 5-1 conference win. Katherine Roemer finished with two goals and an assist in the Barons first AMCC win of the season.
Calene Dougherty and Katherine Roemer put Franciscan on the board first. After the Barons were called for a hand ball at 47:44, Blair connected on her first penalty kick of her career. Her perfectly placed ball cut the lead to just one. But the wind was taken out of the Hawks sails when, just three minutes later, Roemer took her second pass from Ashley Ruttencutter netting her second tally of the day. Two more Franciscan scores by 65:22 finished the action during the 90 minute game.
Hilbert’s Ariana Scheidt was credited with five saves after facing 19 shots (10 on goal). Blair and Robbi Bailey generated the Hawks offense with five shots on goal.
Hilbert (2-8-1, 0-3-1) travels to Bradford October 9th for the next AMCC game.
