ELMA, NY – Julia Schroeck scored four goals for Penn State Behrend who took a 6-1 victory over Hilbert College in women’s soccer October 23. Hilbert hosted the Lions on an indoor turf surface at Salen’s Sports Park due to the wet and poor field conditions of Hilbert’s home field on campus and that quicker playing surface aided Behrend during the match.
Schroeck opened the match with her first goal just under two minutes into the game. Her second score surprised everyone in the field house due to the angle and drop it took over Hilbert’s Erin Smith in goal. Mary Mabon earned the Hawks only points with her chip shot over Behrend’s Taylor Troyan who was drawn out of the frame by Allyson Kelchlin’s aggressive attack. Schroeck netted her hat-trick with just fifteen seconds left in the first half, padding the Lions lead 3-1.
The second half seemed to be Behrend’s game with their crisp, low passing; they outshot the Hawks 15-1 and scored three more times before the final horn. Ariana Scheidt finished the match in goal for Hilbert making five of the team’s nine saves.
