KEUKA PARK, NY – Dan McFarland’s 19 points and double eight assists and rebounds complemented the balanced Hawk scoring as Hilbert took a 73-66 road non-conference victory over Keuka College November 26. Teddy Tuggles’ 15 points led three Storm players in double figures as Keuka droped to 0-4 this fall.
Hilbert (4-1) opened the game with a 10-2 run, including back-to-back three point baskets by Isaac Bushey but Keuka found a way to tie the game at 11:37. After a Hilbert timeout, the Hawk rookies began to fill the stat sheet. Jerame Owens responded with a lay-up that was followed by Nick Nadeau’s good three-pointer. The same pattern occurred again, with an Owens’ bunny shot and a long distance bomb by Nadeau before Owens dialed-up a long ball himself and then watched CJ Hodge score a layup on the next possession. Hilbert held a 10-point lead at half.
Over a five-second span early in the second half, Bushey stuffed back-to-back layups which gave the visitors a 48-33 lead that they road to the final horn. McFarland finished the last 1:10 of the game hitting five of six shots at the charity stripe assuring Hilbert the win.
Earning a career-high 12 points, Bushey finished the game shooting four of nine and two of five behind the arc. Anthony Hodge chipped in nine points (three steals) while Trevor Stark and Owens each added seven points. Nadeau finished shooting two of three all from deep and Mike Jones was perfect from inside the paint hitting all three attempts.
Casey Williams netted 14 and Tyler Hixson netted in 11 points for the Storm on their home court.
Up next for Hilbert is an important AMCC contest against cross-town rival, D’Youville College November 28. The Hawks and Spartans tip-it close to 8pm after the women’s opening game with a start time of 6pm.
