KEUKA PARK, NY – The Hilbert College men’s lacrosse team gave up 14 goals and suffered their first North Eastern Athletic Conference league loss to Keuka College April 2. Hilbert’s John Pingitore netted the Hawks lone goal in the 7pm game played under the lights in Penn Yan, NY.
Keuka’s Derek Pfeiffer scored twice before Pingitore took a Sean Purtill pass and snuck it past the Storm’s keeper at 7:51 in the first quarter. Keuka continued to challenge the Hawks offensively scoring 3 more times before the quarter break and four times in the second period.
Hilbert did not put another point on the board through the entire second half while giving up five unanswered hits for the final 14-1 score.
Keuka’s Connor Latimer led the Storm offensive with 7 points (4 goals).
Brendan Kane fired 4 team-high shots while Purtill, Elliott Russillio, Pingitore, and Brady Metcalf almost matched Kane’s as they all finished with 3 shots.
Hilbert won less than 50% of their face-offs (8-19) but were 12 of 14 in clears for the game and was 1 for 1 in extra-man opportunities. Keuka finished with 13 more shots (34-21) and held a 41-33 ground ball advantage but did not fully take advantage of the 8 penalties flagged against Hilbert.
William Wagner finished with 8 saves for Hilbert while Keuka’s goalies combined for 10 total saves. Eric Saltrelli was credited with 7 saves before Scott Thielman relieved him with just over nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
The Hawks are idle for almost a week until they host their home opener in Hamburg on April 11 against Wells College at 4pm.
