Chris Hoak from the baseball team and Sarah Lorusso from the women’s lacrosse team have been named as the Hilbert College’s Co-Student-Athletes of the Month for March, 2013.
Hoak (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) started all twelve games at short stop during the first month of the season. He led the team in just about every offensive category. The super-senior lead with .348 batting average; .457 slugging; 16 hits, 10 RBIs; scored 8 runs while hitting 3 doubles and 1 triple for the 1-12 Hawks. He covered a team high 21 bases and tied for the lead with four stolen bases in March. On Defense, he assisted on 37 of the Hawks outs and led with 7 fielding double-plays. Hoak made two appearances on the mound and earned the Hawks only save for the season, against Pitt-Greensburg. His most productive game at the plate was against St. Scholastica when he went 3 for 3, earning his double bagger with one RBI and one stolen base.
Hoak is a Business Administration major.
Sarah Lorruso (Lakeview, NY/Frontier) led the women’s lacrosse team into new territory as they open their inaugural year of Division III lacrosse this season. The sophomore middie has already left her mark after only 4 games in March. She produced almost half the Hawks offense earning 10 points on 9 goals and 1 assist. She led the team with .409 shooting percentage off 22 shots. And of her 15 hosts on goal, she carried a .682 shot-on-goal percentage. Lorusso earned 9 ground balls and 7 draw controls in four games. The multi-sport athlete helped the Hawks come-from-behind to earn the programs first win, 9-8 against Franciscan. She scored 4 goals, added 2 ground balls, and 1 draw-control.
Lorusso is a Criminal Justice major.
