GANSEVOORT, NY – For the third time this season, junior Sean Purtill has been named as the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Student-Athlete of the Week in men’s lacrosse. He became the first Hilbert student-athlete to receive such an honor.
Purtill led the Hawks to a 2-0 week after recording 14 points on nine goals and five assists. The Orchard Park native was also credited with six ground balls and just one turnover. He opened the week with a game-best six goals in a 16-11 NEAC win over Cazenovia College April 17. He closed the week with a team-best three goals and a game-high four assists in the thrilling 13-12 non-conference victory over La Roche College April 20. Purtill also was tracked with hitting the goal post four times during the windy and cold Saturday contest.
Purtill is now in third place in the NEAC in goals (31) and points (52) while holding onto the fifth slot in assists (21).
Hilbert (7-3) is off to its best start in the program’s three year history. The Hawks currently sit in 2nd place in NEAC standings with 3-1 league record.
With only three games remaining, Hilbert hosts Medaille College (4-2) on April 23 and Wells College (0-4) April 25th before they travel to SUNYIT (4-2) this weekend for their final game. The top four teams in the nine-team league qualify for NEAC play-offs with the league’s champion extending their season in the NCAA tourney.
