ALLIANCE, OH – The University of Mount Union and Hilbert College both completed their inaugural women’s lacrosse seasons with a night game under the lights in Ohio. Mount Union extended their win streak to 13 with the 22-2 victory over Hilbert April 27.
Sarah Lorusso netted both scores for Hilbert (2-8) and Meghan Stewart was credited with seven saves after facing 33 shots in the sixty-minute contest. Mount Union (13-1) was led by Susie Kraus’ seven points (four goals) and Taylor Pensyl, who added five goals (one assist). The Raiders’ Casey McHenry and Clare Byrne shared keeper duties and made a combined 8 saves.
Mount Union took control of the game early putting 12 points on the board before Lorusso found the back of the net with 9:56 remaining in the first half. The hosts took an 18-1 lead to the break and added three more scores before Lorusso hit again at 11:01.
The Hawks trailed the Raiders in shots (33-16), and ground balls (21-8) but they close in draw controls (16-10) and were successful in four of their five clears.
Lorusso and Rachael Bergman led the Hawks with 34 and 10 points respectively. Lorusso earned 27 goals, outdistancing her next closest team mate by 18 goals. Meghan Stewart played every minute of every game between the pipes and made 63 saves on the season.
