-- Hilbert finishes strong in nationwide outdoor challenge –
HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hiking. Slacklining. Backpacking. Bicycling. Even stargazing. These are just a few of the activities students, faculty, and community members from Hilbert College participated in from September 18 through October 15 as part of the 4TH annual Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge.
This is Hilbert’s first year competing in the Campus Challenge. Hilbert finished ninth in their division (Division 2), sixth in the North East and first in New York State, beating larger institutions, such as Stonybrook, Binghamton, and the University at Buffalo. In total, Hilbert tallied 18,832 points from over 1,000 outdoor events logged by 164 participants.
Hosted by the Outdoor Foundation, a nonprofit committed to reconnecting millennials with the outdoors, and sponsored by REI, The North Face, Hydro Flask, and ENO, the Campus Challenge aims to get students from more than 90 universities off the couch and into the wilderness. To participate, students simply download the Campus Challenge app, join their university’s team, and log their outdoor activities during the Challenge to score points.
