Hilbert College and University at Buffalo School of Law Announce 3+3 Partnership

Dec 16, 2024

Hilbert College and the University at Buffalo (UB) School of Law are pleased to announce a new 3+3 accelerated undergraduate/J.D. program, launching in Fall of 2025. The new program will afford qualifying students at Hilbert College the opportunity to earn both their undergraduate and J.D. degrees in six, rather than seven, years of full-time study, saving them both time and tuition costs.

“Accelerated degree pathways like the 3+3 are extremely valuable for students aiming to streamline their higher education experiences and enter the legal profession more quickly while saving them a year of time and money,” said Dr. Michael Brophy, President of Hilbert College. “Partnering with the University at Buffalo School of Law expands the options available to our students and ensures they have the essential guidance necessary to support them as they navigate university and law school.”

After completing three years as an undergraduate and gaining admission to the law school, 3+3 Program participants will become a full-time, first-year law students, or a “1L”, at the University at Buffalo School of Law.

Upon successful completion of the first year of law study, credits earned will be counted toward program participants’ JD degrees and as elective credits, which are sufficient to complete Hilbert College’s requirements for the bachelor’s degree.

“As the State of New York’s law school, we are committed to expanding pathways to legal education and fostering future leaders in the legal profession.” said S. Todd Brown, Dean of UB School of Law. “We’re very pleased to officially partner with Hilbert College to launch a 3+3 program and, we look forward to welcoming Hilbert College students to our law school community and supporting them as they embark on their legal careers.”

Starting in Fall of 2025, highly motivated Hilbert students will be invited to explore and declare their combined undergraduate/J.D. degree major. To be eligible for the program, undergraduate students must have completed a minimum of 90 credits and have maintained a GPA of 3.5 or above. They must also achieve an LSAT or GRE score in line with the University at Buffalo School of Law’s requirements. For more information on eligibility, view the University at Buffalo School of Law page.

Qualifying Hilbert College students studying the following subjects will be eligible for the 3+3 program in Fall of 2025: Criminal Justice, Psychology, Human Services, Political Science, Liberal Studies, English, and Business.
