Degrees in Criminal Justice

4+1 Bachelor of Science Degree & Master of Science Degree

Students can save one year of time to achieve both an undergraduate degree in criminal justice and graduate degree in criminal justice administration as well as save money by paying only one year of graduate tuition costs in addition to the four years of undergraduate tuition. Thus, you achieve your bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in as little as five years.

Building on the foundation of the requirements for the bachelor’s degree, you can continue to grow in understanding of criminal justice policy, management, finance, budgeting and research, ethics and organizational development, as well as advanced problem-solving skills during your fourth and fifth years.

The 4+1 program is for those who want to fast-track their career advancement upon graduation, or for students who have an interest in working for a federal agency. Many federal agencies require or prefer a minimum of a master’s degree to apply.

The 4+1 program is a major and should be declared as soon as possible to ensure students are advised correctly throughout their first three years so they are ready to apply to the graduate program during their junior year, with the graduate courses beginning the fall of their senior year, if accepted. There are on-campus and online options for the graduate portion of the program.

Fast Facts

The National Center for Education Statistics report that persons 25-34 year of age who attain a graduate degree have average annual incomes nearly double of those who have only a high school diploma. Further, those with a graduate degree earn on average $10,000 more per year than those with a bachelor’s degree.

Bachelor of Science Degree

Hilbert's Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice offers you a solid foundation with general criminal justice-related courses, options in specialized concentrations of study, and a strong, liberal arts knowledge base. This degree is structured to be completed in four years, depending on the number of credits taken each term and any transfer credits accepted.

The major in criminal justice is designed for career paths in law enforcement management, probation, corrections, investigation, juvenile justice, law, and corporate security. It will also serve as preparation for graduate school in criminal justice, law, sociology, counseling, or public administration.

There are two options to attain the Bachelor of Science degree: the traditional, on-campus option or the online-only option.

Associate in Arts Degree

The associate-level criminal justice degree is designed to prepare you for entry-level criminal justice positions. The AA degree is introductory in nature and all courses in the associate degree in criminal justice transfer into a bachelor’s degree program if you decide to continue your studies in the future. Generally, students complete this degree within two years.
