Degrees
Bachelor of Science
Political science is the study of government and public policy, and the political behavior of individuals, groups and institutions. In Hilbert's political science major, you will examine how governments are structured, how they formulate policies, and the consequences of those policies, both domestically and internationally.
In addition, you will explore the more abstract theoretical or philosophical questions of government and justice, as well as the day-to-day workings of the political system at the federal, state and local levels. The degree program will also prepare you for a variety of career opportunities in law, business, politics, and education.
Bachelor of Science Degree (4) + (1) Masters of Public Administration (MPA)
The innovative combined BS/MPA program allows you to finish your BS in political science and simultaneously work on a master's in public administration. Students can begin taking graduate courses during their final two years as an undergraduate student. Courses will simultaneously count toward both the BS and the MPA degrees.
Admission to the graduate school occurs during your junior year, without the need to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). As a result of beginning graduate courses during your undergraduate program, you will complete the master's degree more quickly.
The combined program should allow you to finish the both degrees in a 4+1 format (5 years), saving you up to two semesters of graduate school.
