Hilbert College Forensic Science Program Ranked Top in the Nation

Apr 26, 2022

Plexuss.com logoHAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College’s forensic science program is ranked No. 1 in the nation, according to Plexuss.com.  Additionally, Plexuss ranks Hilbert’s cybersecurity program as No. 8 in the nation.

“This national recognition is a testament to our tremendous faculty,” Hilbert President Michael S. Brophy, Ph.D. said.  “Their continuous focus on improvement and unmatched emphasis on student success drives these, and all of our, programs forward.”

Included in the college rankings for these programs are undergraduate, 4-year colleges and universities that offer a bachelor’s degree in the respective programs.  In determining which institutions have the best undergraduate forensic science and cybersecurity programs, Plexuss utilized data from the Department of Education. Plexuss looked at key factors such as graduation rates, admissions yield, program popularity, and student retention rate.  To create a more encompassing ranking system, Plexuss then incorporated subject-specific rankings from the most prominent reputable ranking sources available: U.S. News, Times Higher Education, QS, and ARWU to generate their final list.

Hilbert’s forensic science program focuses on the analysis of evidence in laboratory settings, while crime scene investigation involves the proper identification, collection and chain-of-custody procedures of the evidence being analyzed. Hilbert blends the two areas with a strong emphasis on crime scene investigation and how it relates to the forensic lab.

Hilbert’s cybersecurity students get practical hands-on experience in our dedicated lab to simulate security breaches.  Our lab is equipped with the latest technological hardware and software in use in the field. Cybersecurity students gain the knowledge required to pass industry recognized cybersecurity certifications such as the ComptTIA Network+, ComptTIA Security+ and Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) examinations.

According to their website, Plexuss is “a mission-driven education technology company that is changing the world by connecting millions of students everywhere with real opportunity.”

Other notable rankings for Hilbert:

  • Top 10% in the Nation in Income Mobility – according to the NY Times.
  • Top 25% in the Nation in Return on Investment – according to Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce.
  • Top 10% in the Nation for Criminal Justice Programs – according to niche.com.
  • Top 15% in the Nation for Best Residence Halls – according to niche.com.

Hilbert College, located in suburban Hamburg, N.Y., south of Buffalo, is a private four-year college founded in 1957 in the Catholic Franciscan tradition. With over 800 students, Hilbert is a dynamic Western New York college that offers career-focused majors, including one of the top criminal justice programs in the region, and more than 50 minors and concentrations. The college’s engaging, student-centered campus community offers numerous leadership, internship, and service learning opportunities from which students launch successful careers while making positive changes in their communities. The Hilbert Blueprint promotes a well-rounded student experience over four years – starting with the Foundations Seminar in the freshman year, followed by Sophomore Service, Junior Symposium, and culminating with the Senior Capstone. Hilbert has expanded its academic offerings with the college’s first graduate programs in criminal justice administration and public administration, including a track in health administration.
