Parking on Campus

Hilbert assumes no responsibility for damage to or loss of any vehicle or its contents at any time that it is operated or parked on campus.

A person who registers a vehicle is responsible for assuring the vehicle is operated to conform with all campus regulations regardless of who drives the vehicle.

Weather conditions do not affect the applicability of enforcement of these regulations. These regulations apply all year long, including academic breaks.

Vehicle Registration

All vehicles operated by Hilbert students, faculty and staff must be registered with campus safety and have a valid parking permit properly displayed to park on campus. Parking permits have an expiration date. Vehicles must be registered within five days of being brought on campus.

Bicycles, Motorbikes, and Motorcycles

Bicycles, motorbikes, and motorcycles are permitted on the Hilbert campus and are subject to the same regulations as cars. Hilbert students, faculty or staff operating motorbikes or motorcycles must register these vehicles with campus safety.

Register your vehicle by going to Hilbert Campus Safety, located in the lower level of the Campus Center or register online on our parking permit request form.

  • Hilbert students, faculty or staff who wish to obtain a parking permit may be requested to present proper identification or vehicle registration papers upon request.
  • You may not obtain a permit for another person's vehicle.
  • Parking permits are generally non-transferable, however, transferable permits may be obtained upon request. Permits for multiple vehicles are also available.
  • Lost or stolen permits must be replaced immediately.
  • Hilbert parking permits may not be reproduced or altered.

Parking Permit Placement

Hilbert parking permits must be displayed on the rearview mirror of the vehicle and be clearly visible from the outside of the vehicle.

Regulations

Parking

  • Parking is restricted to marked spaces. Parking outside of marked spaces is prohibited.
  • Vehicles may not be parked so as to obstruct traffic or access to ramps or loading areas, nor may they interfere with normal college operational activities or create a hazard. Vehicles parked in such a manner are subject to tow.
  • Double parking is prohibited.
  • Parking on grass, sidewalks, crosswalks, service drives, fire lanes, maintenance zones, or on the street, unless properly marked, is prohibited. Violators will be subject to immediate towing or immobilizing.
  • A reasonable amount of time will be granted for loading or unloading of vehicles. No vehicle may park in the roadway in front of the residence hall in excess of 15 minutes.
  • Unauthorized parking in spaces marked reserved is prohibited.
  • Disabled vehicles or abandoned vehicles may be towed at the owner's expense. If your vehicle becomes disabled, contact campus safety at (716) 479-1233 or use one of the emergency phones.
  • Major repairs to vehicles may not be performed on campus.

Traffic

  • The speed limit is 20 mph at Hilbert and must be obeyed at all times.
  • Driving or parking on service drives, sidewalks, paths, grass, off road, or curbs is prohibited.
  • Motorists must yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and bicyclists crossing a roadway.
  • Tearing down, altering, defacing, or removing a traffic control device or sign is prohibited.

Violations

All vehicles and parking regulations at Hilbert are subject to enforcement 24 hours a day throughout the year, including summer. Permits are valid only when properly attached to the assigned vehicle.

The accumulation of three or more unpaid violations may result in the loss of driving privileges on campus. Further violations may be referred to the Office of Student Life.

The person whose name is on record at campus safety will be responsible for the violation. You may request an appeal from the Director of Campus Safety. Fines may be paid at the Office of Business/Finance, located in Franciscan Hall on the second floor. Their hours are 9am - 2pm Monday through Friday.
